Prof. U N Roy, working as Professor, Rural Development at National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research, Chandigarh. I did my post graduation in Rural Development (XISS, Ranchi) as MSc Environmental Science (Nalanda:Open University, Patna) and PhD in Sociology from Panjab University, Chandigarh on Integrated Watershed Management. I got UGC, Government of India, Junior Research Fellowship in Rural Development in 1992 and joined my PhD initially at CDRT, IIT Delhi. I was there as UGC research fellow for two years working on Sustainable Agriculture Project but shifted my PhD work at PU, Chandigarh as I joined NITTTR Chandigarh as Lecturer in 1995. Since 1995, he is working as faculty member at NITTTR Chandigarh.
His area of research and interest are Technologies for Sustainable Rural Development, Organic farming and sustainable agriculture, watershed management, Climate change and disaster management, participatory research (PRA/RRA). He had also been working for vocational training of rural youth and women under Community Polytechnic Scheme of GoI through a network of 155 polytechnics in Northern India training about 70 – 80 thousand unemployed youth and women per annum from poorer sections of the society.
Dr. Roy established a Weekly Organic farmers market at Chandigarh in 2015 which has been doing well benefiting about 30 organic farmers of HP, Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh states.
